Staff Accountant

Based in San Angelo, TX, Shelburne Financial Services started in late 1980 with the goal of providing a customized approach for clients. Services offered include bookkeeping, tax return preparation, financial statement preparation, payroll services and more.

Position Summary:

Main responsibilities involve preparing income tax returns, using tax preparation software and online resources, for businesses and individual clients. The Tax Accountant must review financial information and records, documentation, which may include receipts and expense reports, to develop a thorough understanding of the business or individual’s tax situation.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist in the preparation of business and individual tax returns, along with quarterly and annual payroll forms

  • Using applicable federal, state, and local tax law, determine the deductions and amount each client will pay or earn on their tax return

  • Communicate in-person, by email or phone to learn about client’s business or individual’s tax situation, and what is required to complete the tax return and finish the filing

  • Complete and file tax documents with appropriate agencies, like the IRS, state, and local government entities

  • Provide businesses with bookkeeping services, along with payroll assistance

  • Develop strong relationships with clients

  • Occasional assistance with customer service including helping incoming clients and answering phone calls

  • Scan documents for electronic storage

Experience Required:

  • 1 – 2 years of experience in tax compliance, preferred but will train

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (required)

  • Master's degree in Accounting or related field (preferred)

  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred

  • Strong Computer experience with Excel, Word, and other software programs

  • Excellent interpersonal skills—both verbal and written

  • Accounting Services Director and Chief Executive Officer
